Querétaro Grows and Consolidates as a Tourist Destination: Adriana Vega

The Secretary of Tourism of the state of Querétaro (SECTUR), Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado, appeared before the LXI local Legislature, within the framework of the Gloss of the Fourth Report of the Governor, Mauricio Kuri González, to give an account of the results, goals and actions achieved in tourism.

During her speech, the head of SECTUR stressed that, as a result of public policies on the matter, promotion at the national and international level, so far in the current administration, the state of Querétaro received more than 74 million tourists, visitors and excursionists, and reached an average hotel occupancy of 64%. which represented an increase of 46% compared to the first year of the administration. He stressed that, in these four years, the entity has generated an economic spillover of more than 103 billion pesos, consolidating tourism as a key engine for the state economy.

"Querétaro is today a more competitive, modern and sustainable destination. The achievements achieved in these four years are the product of coordination between government, private sector and society, and our commitment is to continue taking tourism in Querétaro to the next level," he said.

In terms of infrastructure, the Secretary reported that, in the accumulated of the four years of management, the development of 54 tourism projects was completed, with a public and private investment of 85 million pesos, which facilitated the attraction of about 23 million tourists and visitors to the various regions of the state.

In the last government period alone, the Secretary highlighted, through the Support Program for Development and Tourism Promotion, 13 projects benefited in eight municipalities of the entity; in addition to the promotion of another 40 additional projects; with technical advice and the development of tourist experiences.

Vega Vázquez Mellado, stressed that the training, professionalization and certification of tourism service providers has remained a priority, reaching a cumulative of more than 17 thousand people trained in a total of 650 courses and workshops, in addition to the certification of 190 collaborators of tourism companies with "Standards of labor competence". This year alone, he added, Querétaro added 66 new certified guides, to reach a total of almost 200 professional guides in the state.

Adriana Vega highlighted that one of the fastest growing segments was Romance Tourism, with more than three thousand weddings held in the last year, which generated a spill of 5.4 billion pesos, that is, a growth of 80% compared to the previous period.

"With an investment of 65 million pesos, the Secretariat (SECTUR), participated and supported a total of 403 local, national and international tourism events; impacting more than 6.8 million attendees at these events with the presence of our tourism brand. These data represent a 77% increase compared to the last period of government," he reported.

He highlighted the participation of Querétaro in events such as the International Tourism Fair of Madrid, ANATO in Colombia, the Querétaro Week at the Casa de México Foundation in Madrid and the Tianguis Turístico de México, whose last version was held in the city of Tijuana, Baja California.

Vega Vázquez Mellado added that through the Center for Attention and Protection of Tourists (CAPTA), during the four years of the current administration, guidance, protection, accompaniment and care has been provided to more than 94,800 national and international visitors.

Regarding the Meetings Tourism segment, the state official announced that the Querétaro Congress Center and the Metropolitan Theater received more than 413 thousand attendees in the last year, operating 213 events and generating 39 million pesos in direct revenue, with an increase of 11% compared to the previous period.

These events, he reported, represented an economic spill of 517 million pesos for the entity.

Finally, he highlighted the announcement of the direct Querétaro-Madrid flight with Iberojet, which will begin operations in December 2025, with two weekly frequencies and 45 thousand seats available per year, which opens new opportunities for connectivity and international tourist exchange.
