Inaugurated on August 9, 1991, in the building originally built as military fort, the historical museum offers a synthesis of the most significant events that occurred in that Queretaro region and surrounding areas. From prehistory to the present day, through a rich variety of engravings and ancient objects and contemporary manufacturing, the museum offers a panorama of the transformative action of the various ethnic groups that have populated the Sierra Gorda.
Among them are the Pames, which is one of the oldest groups that still live in communities like Tancoyol. The last ethnographic room of the museum is a tribute to those survivors.
