An ideal weekend destination; This traditional town in Querétaro invites you to walk, relax, and delight.

The atmosphere of the town is irresistible, it is surrounded by aromas of the province that go back to the Mexico of yesteryear, conserving in its streets and squares the colonial appearance.

It was founded in 1551 and its name of Nahuatl origin means "Place on the river of Tequesquité" because of the trees that grew next to the river. Tequisquiapan belongs to the Cheese and Wine Route, an excellent place to learn more about the wine world and taste rich cheese products, in addition to its great variety of wicker and stick. It is located just 2 hours from Mexico City and 50 minutes from the capital of the State of Querétaro.

 

One of the most important municipalities in terms of tourism in the state

Having more than 40 hotels and a variety of restaurants, it has an important corridor of water parks, balloon flights, tram rides, ATVs or horseback riding, craft markets, wine and cheese factories.

Delicious gastronomy

Ideal destination to taste the typical cuisine where the enchiladas querétanas, mole queretano, barbecue or consommé, pork carnitas, the typical gorditas of broken corn that you can accompany with drinks of your choice a delicious flavored water, a refreshing craft beer or a good wine from the region.

It has a variety of restaurants where you will find a variety of Spanish, Argentinian, Italian dishes, delicious cuts, pizzas, Mediterranean food, cheese boards and cold meats, as well as a variety of cafeterias accompanied by a good dessert.

Around the Main Garden you will find a variety of flavors where you will enjoy delicious ice cream and artisanal sweets.

  • The Cheese and Wine Fair, noted for bringing together great wine and cheese producers, held in La Pila Park, with music and culture, great attraction and great experience.
  • Fiesta en el Aire, a celebration where you will admire dozens of hot air balloons that dominate the sky of this beautiful town and highlight its colors.
  • Fiesta de la Fundación de Tequisquiapan, traditional festivity in the Barrio de la Magdalena on June 24
  • Feast of Santa María de la Asunción, celebrated on August 15 with traditional pre-Hispanic dances dancing in the Miguel Hidalgo Main Garden
  • Fiesta of May 3 in honor of the Holy Cross, with traditional combats, dances and a variety of fair stalls.
  • Fighting Bull Fair

Tequisquiapan has different tourist sites, which contribute to the history and culture of the place such as, the Miguel Hidalgo Square, Santa María de la Asunción Parish, Monument to the Geographical Center, Santa María Magdalena Temple, La Pila Park, Lions Club and the Art Garden.

Tequisquiapan is a basketry paradise, offering many options where the magic of its roots and traditions is appreciated.

Currently there are 3 artisan markets, 1 artisan's house and 14 workshops integrated into an artisan corridor which are examples of the magic of our artisans who turn the stick, wicker and rattan into wonderful pieces such as baskets, trays, swings, furniture, hats, sculptures, animals or historical characters.
