Good Friday mourning
After Jesus spoke the words, 'Father into your hands I commend my spirit,' and died on the cross, the biblical chronicle says that the sky became cloudy and thunder was heard. The city of Jerusalem was enveloped by sepulchral mourning, as Christianity has described it over the centuries.
The Procession of Silence takes place year after year through the streets of Querétaro to mourn the passion and death of Christ. Hours after the Stations of the Cross conclude, the faithful go to the Historic Center to witness the mythical rite that unites Querétaro with some of the most important cities in the world.
Candles, Chains Drums
At 6:00 p.m. on Good Friday, a parade of men and women begins through the main streets of the Center, leaving the Temple of the Cross and touring the first square of the city.
The common denominator is the act of faith that moves between 400 and 500 men, who carrying a wooden cross pay an annual mourning to the son of God. It is a Catholic event that has been rooted in Querétaro for 55 years; As it happens in different cities around the world, those present admire the walk of the people who come in organized groups of brotherhoods or brotherhoods, who prepared in advance to surrender to this rite.
Hundreds of women, children and tourists congregate in the avenues where the Procession passes. The groups are dressed in red, purple, white, brown or black tunics, they are also barefoot, with chains on their feet and a hood, a pointed cap that covers the entire face, these elements generate a solemn atmosphere.
Women also accompany the brotherhoods, the classic mourning dress covers their bodies and they parade with candles in their hands. Throughout the tour only laments, chains and drums are heard.
