Four days are enough to discover what Columbus, Bernal and Ezequiel Montes, from the Semi-Desert region have for you
We begin our four-day tour of the municipality of Colón, in which you will be surprised by its wonderful natural landscapes and what better than to visit one of the largest hills in the State, the Cerro del Zamorano. If you are a fan of hiking, you will undoubtedly love this walk, because throughout the morning you will make the journey to the top of the hill.
Later, in the same municipality, at lunchtime, we recommend Casa Trueba, where you will try their farmed mojarra, shrimp and more. Without a doubt, a place with a great family atmosphere to enjoy your afternoon.
Also, don't forget to go to Flor de Alfalfa, which for its 25 years in the market, has established itself as one of the best cheese factories in the region. Don't miss their tours through their hectares of countryside, where you will observe their cows and also get to know their vineyard and cellar.
As an extra activity, we also recommend you to stop by and visit Presa la Soledad, where they have food and activities such as boat rides and more. Afterwards there will be a transfer to Bernal, where you can spend the following nights and we recommend the following lodging options: Cabañas Zidada, El Centenario Arroyitos and Rancho San Jorge.
Heading to Bernal
At the end of the day in Colón, you will be transferred to the Magical Town of Bernal, where you will spend two nights in which you enjoy many activities in the area and its surroundings.
On the second day, the option for breakfast is, without a doubt, the traditional gorditas of El Negrito, located near its main square, a must on your visit to these areas. Similarly, you can also enjoy the imposing Peña de Bernal up close, where you can climb it as far as it is allowed for tourists.
In Bernal, you will also find two museums, ideal for learning a little about the history of local characters and Mexican culture, such as the Rosalío Solano Museum and the Mask Museum. Of course, ending your tour through the colorful streets of this little town, you must try, yes or yes, the esquites of La Amistad, a delicious tradition!
For lunchtime, without a doubt, El Mezquite is a place with one of the best views in the area, as well as an exquisite seasoning in each of its dishes. It is a traditional Mexican restaurant and, without a doubt, you will be fascinated by its family and even romantic atmosphere, to go as a couple.
After recharging your batteries in the afternoon, stroll through Bernal's main square and visit two of the most well-known places: the Temple of San Sebastián Bernal and the La Aurora Artisan Center, where in the latter you will find artisans working various accessories in wool.
To end the second day, our recommendation for dinner is at the La Rocca restaurant, where at night, it has one of the best views of the town on its terrace. They also have a wine cellar, ideal for couples. Enjoy its modern cuisine and accompany your dinner with a delicious wine from the region.
The third day will begin with breakfast at El Arrayán restaurant, a place that follows the family traditions of gastronomy with a touch of high quality and made with local products in each dish.
Our day continues in Ezequiel Montes, where you will see three must-sees in the region: the first is Cházaro, the Royal Tobacco Factory that exists in the State. Here you will learn about the process of creating a cigar through the different tobacco leaves that are needed to have the finished product. Afterwards, we will enter one of the most representative vineyards of Querétaro: Freixenet. This place needs no introduction, but without a doubt, you know at least one of their wines and here you will learn about the process they take to make their bottles of wine.
On one side of Freixenet, we also find De Cote, this wine house is one of the largest in Spain and here you will find a spectacular terrace, restaurant, tours of its vineyards and also its cellar. You'll want to come back to be here all day!
Finally, for lunchtime, a must-see for Ezequiel Montes is La Estampida Grill, a family restaurant at the foot of the road that has an extensive menu of meat cuts, Mexican food, desserts and drinks. It also takes advantage of its green areas to rest in the afternoon-night, as the third day is over.
On one side of Freixenet, we also find De Cote, this wine house is one of the largest in Spain and here you will find a spectacular terrace, restaurant, tours of its vineyards and also its cellar. You'll want to come back to be here all day!
Finally, for lunchtime, a must-see for Ezequiel Montes is La Estampida Grill, a family restaurant at the foot of the road that has an extensive menu of meat cuts, Mexican food, desserts and drinks. It also takes advantage of its green areas to rest in the afternoon-night, as the third day is over.
On our last day of the tour, we will visit a place 100% with Mexican essence, Viñedos Azteca, where you will find endless wine tourism activities around it, such as tours that take you through its hacienda to learn about the history of the creation of its wine, tasting workshops and more.
After spending almost half a day getting to know a little more about the vine, we invite you to visit Villa Progreso, a town in Ezequiel Montes and where you will discover a unique gastronomic proposal that you will not find anywhere else: the seasoning of Don Tomatino. Here you can try an endless number of options including cuts of meat, pasta, fish and seafood, as well as cheese and wine boards to accompany your afternoon. We can't say more, but it's an experience that you must live no matter what.
