After a descent of 500 meters through the Rincón de Matambre you will find the giant heads of Escolásticas, carved in 2014 by the artisans Fernando Arévalo Uribe and Martín Nieto Uribe, the heads today are a tourist attraction in the municipality of Pedro Escobedo.
The scenery is unbeatable, the contact with nature, cliffs, physical activation, the singing of the birds, the sound of the wind that uses the trees as an instrument to be present, that is the Rincón del Matambre, where two huge heads meet at kilometer 26 of Carrera 400, in the ejido of Escolásticas.
They were made in 2014 by artisans Fernando Arévalo and Martín Nieto in order to generate tourist attractions to the place and that it is not only a place for quarry export.
It is said that Italian sculptors have come to Escolásticas, in Pedro Escobedo, to learn about the trade and work in quarry; However, beyond the educational vocation of the ejido, the arrival of tourists is not much, in that sense, the creators say, the heads are an incentive for the visit.
A head represents an indigenous person, which was chiseled by Fernando Arévalo; while the other is the image of a woman, originally it would be the virgin was carved by Martín Nieto.
"We came to make these heads for pleasure, to go down in history, that was the idea, it was nothing else, and more than anything to promote the town, it is full of stonemasons. It will take years, the story comes when you are no longer here, I liked to capture this head here, originally I was going to make a virgin," explained Nieto, who in turn explained that he worked on his piece from February to September 2014.
