With a tradition of almost 100 years, Pulquería Don Federico opens its doors to all those who want to know and enjoy one of the millenary traditions that can still boast of being alive. The culture of pulque in Mexico faces against modernity and its variety of products, however, this drink breaks the barrier of time and gives its consumers all the essence of the purest Mexico.
Pulquería Don Federico is a place of resistance against that modernity that intends to snatch this pre-Hispanic elixir in one fell swoop. The place is run by Doña Tere, granddaughter of Don Federico himself, who since the 1920s supplied pulque to the people of Amealco. Doña Tere remembers how, over the years, she began to work with her grandfather, as well as how the town has been changing its customs.
This drink is recommended for the natural properties it contains: it is a ferment of the earth, with its origin in the maguey and is enjoyed thanks to the care that places like Pulquería Don Federico give it. The old bar, which dates back to 1885, is the ideal place to sit and listen to old stories and have a fresh glass of good pulque.
The place has a jukebox in which there are thousands of musical hits from different eras, with which customers can enjoy their pulques or cured in a better way. In the same way, the pulquería has the possibility of providing a meal to those who wish to do so, which will depend on the availability of the economic kitchen that is located next to Don Federico.
Pulquería Don Federico, just 5 minutes from the Historic Center of Amealco, resists the passage of time, its bar with more than 100 years of life continues to serve pulques to passers-by and tourists who venture out.
