Symbolism and stories in a wooden box, which in its paintings keeps the dream of promoting and preserving the iconograms of Querétaro.

Amealco, known as the birthplace of "Lele", the most popular handmade doll in the country, is also home to a creative project for the promotion and dissemination of visual language by Silvia Velasco Orozco, cultural heritage researcher and creator of La Caja Queretana, an initiative that fuses the iconographic symbols of Querétaro regions with manual work.

Their efforts are aimed at inheriting their work.

As part of her work, Silvia participated in the research for the book "Geometries of the Imagination", a guide that compiles a wide variety of iconograms of the indigenous peoples of Mexico.

Later, Silvia invested her free time in the study of carpentry, a path that would lead her to devise a way to continue her work through art. Thus, after After years touring the municipalities of Querétaro, he began to teach workshops to paint wooden boxes. Reaching up to 100 students, his work acquired recognition and during the 15th Meeting of Popular Cultures and Indigenous Peoples, his project acquired the name of "La caja Queretana"

From cave paintings to the facades of Franciscan missions, Silvia found stories and forms of communication, as is the case of an Otomi embroidery, drawn by a man to request help from the head of Amealco because birds ate their seeds and herbs ruined their planting.

Each box is unique, as the selection of symbolism that you can find in each piece is as great as the imagination of the person who paints them. Using vibrant colors and the wide variety of iconograms, creativity is the guide in every design.

His work has become a trademark and his art sought after for projects such as the absolute awards for La Carrera Panamericana.
