El Jabalí disconnects you from everyday life to plug you into a wild and beautiful reality. Rest from the incessant beeping of the cell phone to listen to nature. There are two days of ATV route and one night of lodging to live a unique experience.
The experience offered by El Jabalí, San Joaquín's flagship ecotourism camp, allows you to connect with nature from the very first moment. Even getting there involves decisions: go directly or leave your vehicle in the municipal seat and start the tour on the ATV. For the first option, the only alternative is to have an all-terrain vehicle, so if you don't have that advantage, don't complicate things and leave your car in its closed parking lot to begin the journey.
At that moment, they give you your helmet and your ATV, which will be your responsibility. They give you instructions on how to handle it: what the brake is, how to accelerate, and what to do if you lose control, but the terrain can be friendly if you follow the directions.
If you have minors who cannot drive or a person who does not want to venture to drive, there are double ATVs; an adult will be in charge of operating the vehicle while the companion enjoys the landscape in a seat behind the driver, or you can go in the van where they carry the luggage, but we recommend that you dare to the immersive experience.
You can go with family, friends, or as a couple. You must fill out a medical form to have your information in case of emergencies and also sign a liability waiver.
Disconnect because there is no signal! Stop seeing reality through a screen; here, everything passes directly from the world to your eyes.
During the ATV trip, the guides will make stops along the way so you can enjoy the view, stretch, and rest from driving for a while.
You can talk to unknown people of all kinds: the family that comes from afar, the group of friends who embarked on the adventure, the couples where one of them is celebrating a birthday and they experience this trip as a gift; there is even a service for companies where—although the cabins are not enough for everyone—you can sleep in tents in a completely clear and safe area.
The guides and organizers have prepared a small lunch in the middle of the journey to recharge your batteries, in addition to telling you anecdotes about the place; the occasional joke because someone did not measure the slope well and gave a slight bump to the ATV in front.
Your hands and arms will be exhausted from driving; it is recommended to wear goggles because the dust raised by the vehicles will end up irritating your eyes; in addition to sunscreen, a cap, long-sleeved clothing, a scarf or cloth that covers half of your face—so you don't eat dirt during the entire trip—and motorcycle gloves so your hands don't feel resentful.
Ah! It is obvious that comfortable shoes are a must. The terrain will take care of breading all your clothes with dirt, so wear something you don't mind getting dirty. The ATV descent injects adrenaline and revitalizes.
Once at the camp, you feel protected by the nearby hills, which are like a wall, and the cabins are in the center with all the necessary equipment. There are three cabins with four single beds and another three with two double beds, which you can rent to have a discreet space for you and your partner.
As soon as you arrive, you can get in the shower to eliminate the trace of dust and refresh your existence, as each cabin has a personal bathroom.
The fatigue of the trip is fixed with a good drink and a meal. A cut of meat with its side dishes that you will not take long to devour because of how delicious it is and the physical effort. You can talk with the other groups, people who come from other states, who take advantage of the weekend (and if there is a long weekend, even better) to tour the Sierra Gorda of Querétaro. There are a few electrical connections to recharge your cell phone or recording equipment, but they are not inside the cabins for security reasons; they are in the palapa where everyone gathers to eat.
At night, you can light a bonfire to illuminate the scene, but keep in mind that when you fix your gaze upwards, you will see many stars with a clarity that you have never seen in the city. The guide brings a telescope to observe the stars more clearly, thanks to the fact that there is no light pollution. The place has electricity generated by solar energy; however, at 00:00 hours everything is turned off, which allows you to see the cosmos clearly.
They will tell you somewhat scary stories, but in the end, they turn out to be absurd things typical of the place, nothing to be scared of. It should be noted that those in charge seek to conserve the environment and, apart from that, the camp was created to create jobs for the local population, since San Joaquín stands out for its contact with nature and disconnection with everyday life.
Upon awakening, the sun rises little by little above the natural wall; you can see how the rays of light fall in diverse ways; the climate is perfect for lying in the hammocks to rest. A breakfast before leaving with eggs, chilaquiles, beans, quesadillas, coffee, and orange juice, and ready, come again to the ATV to live the adventure.
It is always easier to go downhill; the climb hurts twice as much, but it will hurt more to let go of that tranquility. As soon as you reach an area with coverage, the cell phone will ring non-stop; all the messages and notifications appear with a "Are you okay?" from your relatives and friends worried about your absence.
"I'm fine, better than ever."
