The struggle for independence in 1810 was one of the most important turning points in our country and its beginning was considered the greatest conspiracy that had taken place in Mexico up to that time.
Walking through the streets of Querétaro is to find secrets, to know the houses where the clandestine meetings of the conspirators were held is to be involved in the history of our city, to visit the monuments that were made in honor of these characters is to witness the independence of Mexico and to take a tour of the museums that commemorate these episodes is undoubtedly a great pride.
Here we share a route with the most emblematic and representative houses and places of the cause that gave us independence. This tour is in the Historic Center of Querétaro on foot and we recommend you do it with your whole family.
Here we begin. In one of the most beautiful squares of the Historic Center is the Casa de la Corregidora where the conspirators met under the pretext of literary evenings.
Here too, Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez is locked up and here too, in an attempt to save the conspiracy, she decides to write the letters and send them to Ignacio Pérez to warn Captain Allende and the priest Hidalgo of what had happened.

This square is the perfect place for lunch or breakfast in one of its restaurants while admiring the famous monument in honor of Doña Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez. This sculpture was commissioned by Porfirio Díaz in the commemoration of the centennial of independence. The lock that you can see on the statue symbolizes the plate through which the message to Ignacio Pérez passed.
Casa Aspeytia, from which Ignacio Pérez took his horse, and the armory of Epigmenio González
One of the factors that most influence the Historic Center of Querétaro is so hypnotic is that many of its most outstanding historical passages took place in spaces that not only survive today, but that you can live closely and feel their enormous value in. Two examples are the Casa Aspeytia, from where Ignacio Pérez took his horse to leave quickly to warn Hidalgo and Allende that the conspiracy had been discovered. Today it is a wonderful hotel with its terrace, La Grupa.
In addition, in front of the Zenea Garden, an ideal area to walk and get to know every corner a corner rich in history, you can find what was once the house of Epigmenio González, one of the conspirators, who dedicated himself to building a store of weapons that were used by the army commanded by Hidalgo to start the independence revolt.

On Avenida Universidad you will find this famous roundabout of a man on horseback that seems to be on his way to San Miguel de Allende. This monument was made to one of the key characters for the triumph of the Independence struggle, Ignacio Pérez who alerted the conspirators about what was happening in Querétaro. He took his horse at what is now the Casa Aspeytia hotel.
