Querétaro has a growing tourist activity that contributes 23% of the Gross Domestic Product of the State of Querétaro, this notoriety brings with it a responsibility to guarantee the conservation of the conditions that keep Querétaro attractive as a tourist destination, and that the people who offer their work to the sector as well as the local communities have the necessary conditions for their well-being through tourism.
The Secretary of Tourism of the State of Querétaro has joined the fight against climate change from tourism by signing the Glasgow Declaration for Climate Action in Tourism in 2023. And it is in follow-up to this commitment the Climate Action Plan for Tourism in the State of Querétaro.
This commitment is focused on reducing carbon emissions in tourism in the next decade and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, as well as promoting the use and promotion of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies, the protection of nature, the reduction of disaster risks from adverse climatic phenomena, and above all, to sustainable development in tourism.
The proposed action plan for the tourism sector in accordance with a climate change approach is structured based on 13 lines of action, under which 57 specific actions are defined that establish: those responsible for its execution, collaborators and implementation deadlines, which allow the plan to be monitored.
METHODOLOGY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ACTION PLAN:
For the development of this Plan, 5 stages were used that involved the participation at different times of both the technical teams of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Sustainable Development, as well as representatives of the private, social and academic sectors.
OBJECTIVES OF THE CLIMATE ACTION PLAN FOR TOURISM IN THE STATE OF QUERÉTARO:

Promote, integrate and coordinate public policies to prevent social, economic and environmental risks generated by the impacts of climate change and adapt to its effects, as well as to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and compounds, thus adding to Mexico's commitment at the international level of its National Determined Contribution (NDC).
