The Wool Artisan Workshops in Colón

Swipe down

In the municipality of Colón, Querétaro, one of the oldest and most valuable artisanal traditions in Mexico is preserved: the weaving of wool on pedal looms. These workshops are a reflection of the cultural richness of the region and the hard work of families who have dedicated generations to perfecting this technique. Among the most outstanding artisans are José Vega Ibarra, Antonio Prado Moreno, Verónica Álvarez Aguillón and Leonor de León Aguilar, whose workshops are a true tribute to the textile tradition of Querétaro.

Pedal loom wool weaving is a technique that combines skill, creativity and patience. This artisanal process begins with the obtaining and carding of wool, followed by spinning and dyeing. Finally, the artisans make complex and detailed fabrics on the loom, giving life to blankets, rugs, serapes, vests and other pieces that reflect the identity of the region.
