November 1. The air has a smell of piloncillo and sugar, the streets are filled with the colors of papel picado and the parks of children and adults dressed up asking for skulls. And it is that in Querétaro there is not only jubilation for the "All Saints' Day", it is also the day on which the catrines and catrinas take to the streets of the Historic Center in their traditional 2022 parade.
Thousands of people waited impatiently for the 2022 Catrines and Catrinas Parade and after a two-year hiatus, this event arrived with force and with the spirit of taking the night, the streets and showing why the Day of the Dead is more alive than ever.
The tour began at Corregidora corner Ángela Peralta, turned around at Plaza de la Constitución and continued through Juárez. A short but colorful tour that had the participation of almost 700 people between artists and the general public.
There was an open call a few weeks before in which 250 people were registered who had as their only condition to appear that day disguised as a catrín or catrina.
The parade also had the participation of organizations such as Saca la Bici, dance groups such as La Casa de Cultura de Carrillo and Félix Osores, a fashion school that designed some costumes for the event, artists from Querétaro such as Julio Jaramillo who has been characterizing La Catrina for 13 years, the versatile group La Sonora Querenda, horses, stilt walkers and several funeral homes that accompanied the tour with motorcyclists, dancers and floats.
Tourists and locals were surprised by several allegorical floats that dressed the streets of the Historic Center: an altar dedicated to Dr. Andrés Garrido del Toral, a car offered to the Catrines bride and groom accompanied by a mariachi, an inn with Catrine children and a tribute to Juan Gabriel and Vicente Fernandez accompanied by the Queen of the Christmas Festivities 2022, Laura Marie.
In the almost two hours of tour, the first square of the city found a manifestation of national customs and traditions taken in a very particular way by the Board of Trustees of the Festivities of the State of Querétaro. A party full of costumes, makeup, music, dance, joy and emotion; a true sample of Querétaro's talent that makes us look forward to next November.
Bodegas Vaivén is a vineyard that is clear about its concept; balance and equilibrium are a fundamental part of its philosophy. Visit it and experience everything about wine in the Querétaro semi-desert.
The Hotel Villa Mexicana is a space full of elegance and good service. Its exclusivity is one of its main characteristics. It is an environment in which business tourism can enjoy signature spaces in a typical Mexican hacienda environment.
