Hacienda Tovares, built in 1640 by Captain Alonso de Tovar y Guzmán, is the place where the civil event that led to the foundation of the current city of Cadereyta de Montes took place.
More than just a hotel, Hacienda Tovares is an experience. The property was acquired by Mauricio Márquez and Virginia Castro in 2008, both united by a passion for nature and by a personal history of affection, loyalty and dreams to fulfill.
Currently, the historic hacienda functions as a tourist complex that offers, in addition to hotel accommodation, a restaurant, equestrian activities, business and social events and weddings.
Every aspect of the hacienda is worth visiting, enjoying and taking time to rest and coexist with a natural environment that offers from vineyard fields, water pools and a landscape typical of the semi-desert of Querétaro where cacti are the protagonists.
The sustainable project of Hacienda Tovares revived an area of Querétaro that in 1640 was an oak forest before becoming semi-desert. There were 23 animal species in the place, now there are more than 127 with the work of reforestation and maintenance of the hacienda that occupies 52 hectares.
The hacienda project focused on the impact of the ecosystem through the work of environmental management units for the protection of wild fauna and flora and some endangered species such as teporingo, blue lizard, semi-desert tortoise, biznaga or mother-in-law's seat.
They designed a water catchment system to take advantage of this resource. It is an artificial lake that aims to capture rainwater and running water from its thermal water pools.
This water reservoir is used for garden irrigation, sowing and to supply water to your horses. In the lake they have tilapia, a fish that contributes to feeding the birds of the region and regenerating the ecosystem.
It also offers jobs to 28 people, most of them from the municipality of Cadereyta, who work for the tourism sector. The Hacienda Tovares was in its beginning a hacienda of labor, it has a consecrated chapel – in which Chichimecas and Otomi were entrusted before going to the mines – so religious ceremonies can be carried out.
