With the arrival of the International Day of the Artisan this March 19, we want to share some of the most outstanding within the state of Querétaro, in which are the ceramics of Ezequiel Montes, the Lele and Dönxu dolls in Amealco, the quarry and the basketry work.
Ceramics are one of the most distinctive crafts in Querétaro, with a strong presence of the Villa Progreso delegation in Ezequiel Montes. The technique used in this region is based on traditional methods passed down from generation to generation. Its elaboration is a source of livelihood for many artisan women in Amealco de Bonfil. On the other hand, the Donxu doll, whose presence is equally significant, represents the balance in the Otomi worldview and reinforces the importance of preserving the artisanal tradition. Both dolls have gained relevance nationally and internationally, when remembering these dolls or mentioning them we immediately think of Querétaro.
Similarly, Querétaro is one of the main producers of opal in Mexico, with mines located in municipalities such as Tequisquiapan. This semi-precious stone, prized for its iridescent color reflections, is mined and carved by skilled artisans who transform the mineral into jewelry such as rings, necklaces, and bracelets. Querétaro opal has gained national and international recognition, not only for its beauty, but also for the mining and artisanal tradition that supports it. The sale of these pieces is an important source of income for the region and allows to keep alive a practice that combines manual work with nature.
