Its construction began in 1786 and was completed in 1805, when it was blessed by the priest Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who at that time was the parish priest of Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato.
It was granted the designation of Cathedral in 1922 by Pope Benedict XV, although its congregation took place until 1931, with the Bishop of Querétaro Francisco Banegas Galván.
In the facade of this temple you can appreciate a baroque architectural style that transcends the neoclassical, due to the periods of time in which it was built, and various materials such as red tezontle and pink quarry.
