On April 9, 1989, the Corregidora stadium witnessed what would be considered one of the most important music events in Querétaro, the British artist Rod Stewart arrived with all his style to be the solo protagonist of one of the most remembered shows in the history of the city.
Since then, the possibility has been raised, is Querétaro ready to host rock events and receive artists of international stature? Stewart's first concert – with his dance of Da ya think im sexy on stage – was marked in the collective memory of a city eager for musical culture and new shows.
More than 30 years later, the legacy of that event is translated into the realization of film festivals, dance, theater, meetings such as the Hay Festival and, of course, the Pulso GNP, a musical event that is in its third edition this Saturday, May 7, and that presents an ambitious line-up that champions -no more and no less- than the British band Gorillaz, led by Damon Albarn.
Two years passed for the return of the festival after the 2020 edition, which would bring together Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and Madness for the first time on stage, was suspended due to the pandemic. The expectation was high and it was more than filled. Gorillaz promises... and he promises seriously, he already did it last weekend at the Quilmes Rock, Argentina, where in addition to nostalgia there were surprises such as the live collaboration with Trueno, who performed - before the astonished look of Albarn - the classic Clint Eastwood in a fast rap.
Will there be any surprise guests in Querétaro? It's the unknown, with a mind as creative and restless as Damon Albarn's you can expect whatever it is; however, there will surely be moments to listen to classics such as Aries, 19/2000, On Melancholy Hill, Dirty Harry, Feel Good Inc, Dare and songs from Song Machine such as Strange Timez, a single in which they collaborate with the vocalist of The Cure, Robert Smith.
Without a doubt, we are facing one of the most creative and important bands of recent years; however, the GNP Pulse surprises with a lineup that positions the festival as a benchmark of the music scene in Mexico and Latin America. An example is Cold War Kids, who arrive in the capital of Querétaro to present Nobody But Me, their collaboration with The Knocks, a recital in which classics such as Hang Me Up to Dry will surely also be played.
Likewise, the GNP Pulse will witness the return of the Mexican singer, Carla Morrison, and the presentation of the Uruguayan band, No Te Va Gustar, which after albums such as El Calor del plena invierno and Por lo menos hoy has had a constant growth in Mexico. La Cuca, Ximena Sariñana, Enjambre, Band of Horses and Kinky are other participating artists to give a total of more than 30 groups that will burst Querétaro next Saturday.
So far, 40 thousand tickets have been sold, to mention that the tickets purchased for the suspended edition of 2020 will be valid for Pulso GNP 2022. There are still five thousand tickets available.
It is worth mentioning that 20 thousand people from other states of the republic are expected, so the hotel industry is ready and with enough capacity to accommodate visitors.
