One of the greatest attractions of the municipality of Amealco de Bonfil is its spectacular natural environment. Its environment, its vegetation and its wide green meadows have positioned this region as one of the most fascinating in the Bajío to enjoy forests and cool climates. Its position at more than 2 thousand meters above sea level gives it unique landscapes in the state; this is to enjoy the views and trails of Cerro la Cruz.
2,890 meters above sea level
At one of the exits of the municipal capital, 10 minutes from the main garden of Amelaco, is located the Cerro de la Cruz. An elevation that reaches 2,890 meters above sea level, it is the favorite place for the people of Amealco to pay tribute to their dogmas of faith, as well as to enjoy eternal walks along natural paths.
The pines and oaks that give life to this hill are grouped in a large area that serves for tourists and locals to travel more than eight kilometers of route on foot or by mountain bike. In different areas of this elevation there are stops where walkers can base themselves to take a breath, contemplate the landscape or, when accompanied by guides, make small bonfires.
This hill also has a religious symbol of great importance for the region. At the summit there is an immense cross and an altar where masses are officiated on the dates when there are pilgrimages to this area. The same as a route of stations to pray the rosary, which concludes at the altar.

The various offers of routes offer ATV routes or organized hiking, as well as paths that end at the top, where the cross and the viewpoint are located, from which a part of the municipality of Amealco can be appreciated, as well as neighboring towns belonging to Michoacán. A view that you cannot miss and that rewards the effort of the trail.
