Discover in one day the magic that the Historic Center has for you.
Have gorditas for breakfast? Visiting some of the most important museums in the area? Discover the history and tourist sites that characterize Querétaro? You can find this and more on this route that will take you only one day and that we made especially for you.
Our tour starts from Plaza Constitución, a place that was part of the convent of the parish of San Francisco and that over the years has been rebuilt until it reaches as we know it now.
It is one of the most important squares in the State and is the starting point to discover what the Historic Center has for you, as we will start the day with an exquisite (and traditional) gorditas de migajas, either in those that are up Andador Libertad or in the restaurant of Las Deliciosas Gorditas de El Portal. You'll love them!
History of Querétaro
After having tasted our exquisite gorditas, we invite you to discover a little of the history of our country and, obviously, of the State of Querétaro at the Regional Museum (which opened its doors in 1936), located in Corregidora Sur #3, where through its permanent exhibition halls, they will show you the artistic and historical richness we have:
If after touring the entire museum, you want a place to rest a little, we recommend you go up on the Andador Libertad towards Río de la Loza Sur and turn left, there you will find one of the most popular cafes in the area, Casa Apothecarius. This is a meeting point for all coffee lovers, as this is their main specialty, but they also have a wide variety of food, desserts and drinks.
Finishing your break, we recommend you go up Independencia Street or 5 de Mayo with Venustiano Carranza towards the temple of La Santa Cruz, there you can learn about the history of this temple that was built in the seventeenth century and inside you can see the famous tree that gives thorns in the shape of a cross. There are many legends that tell how this particular thorn formed.
We also invite you to discover (at lunchtime), the different most traditional restaurants in the area. For example, Mesón de Chucho el Roto and 1810 that are located in Plaza de Armas (the closest if you are by the Cross) and that specialize in providing you with a delicious variety of dishes of Mexican cuisine.
Another recommendation that you can also visit is La Mariposa, a place that for 81 years has provided service to thousands of people from Mexico and abroad. Everyone loves their food and also something you can't miss, they are their traditional milkshakes, you will be fascinated!
Punto Mexico
Without leaving the Plaza de Armas area, we invite you to get to know a little piece of Querétaro, since at the offices of CAPTA (Center for Attention and Protection to Tourists) located in Luis Pasteur Nte. 4, each month one of the 18 municipalities that the State has as a guest, so that tourists and locals discover a little of its tourist sites, its gastronomy, its history and take a souvenir of what Querétaro is.
After enjoying Punto México, it's time to take a great tour of the first square of the Historic Center by tram. You will walk to the Monument to the Corregidora (very close to Plaza de Armas) and the buses and trams will be parked to start this beautiful experience in our beautiful Center.
Here you can choose and enjoy any of its three main routes, such as the Panoramic, where in an open-top bus they pass through the main avenues of the city, addressing the topic of how Querétaro originated, the history of the Aqueduct and the important characters of our history.
Or the Cerro de las Campanas route, in which he focuses mainly on the places that gave way to Maximilian's empire and the beginning of independence. We end with the Aqueduct route, which also addresses the creation of the city and the work of the Marquis of Querétaro.
These are activities for the whole family and we know that they will enjoy it very much.
At night
We are almost done with our day, after having visited museums, eaten in the most traditional gastronomic places and discovered a little more of the history of Querétaro, we have only two very important activities to do, but first we have to ask you... are you a fan of legends?
If so, don't leave without first enjoying an authentic Night of Legends, in which your guide (who is an illustrious character) will take you on a mythical tour through the alleys and walkways where very strange things happened. This experience takes place with performances and live music throughout the activity.
It is well said that Querétaro has the most beautiful sunsets... And for this reason, we recommend you end your day having dinner on a terrace and what better than observing how the slope of the sun is setting through the domes of the churches and our city.
The recommendation to close with a flourish is the La Grupa terrace, located in the vicinity of the Casa Aspeytia hotel. Here you will find a wide variety of cheese boards, pizzas, gourmet dishes and exquisite cocktails and wine to accompany your evening, in addition, there are special days when they have live music, how are you?
