If traditions had an aroma, it would be that of freshly baked bread in the morning.
In the beautiful magical town of Amealco, just one block from downtown, there is a place that represents the work inherited from the family, where the day begins at dawn in time to reach the table for breakfast, accompanied by a delicious café de olla.
For generations, Diego Mercado's family has been dedicated to the noble art of bread, but for reasons of life that no one can control, it became impossible to keep the business.
Diego, determined to resume the family business and give it a new image, opening the Santa María Bakery, shortly before the Christmas holidays of 2024, putting his hopes of reaching the taste of the people with his effort and hard work.
He named it in homage to the first name of the municipality, La Villa de Santa María de Amealco, a detail that evokes the nostalgia of the community. Likewise, he designed his logo based on the parish of the same name, adorning it with an ear of wheat that reflects his work.
The business was a success, exceeding their expectations from the beginning, gradually increasing people's preference based on delicacies: conchas, cuernitos, cinnamon rolls, bolillos, acámbaro bread, and much more.
If you visit this beautiful village, don't forget to visit the bakery, open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is a mandatory stop for those who have a craving for something new.
