In the vibrant Historic Center of Querétaro, a new space has opened its doors with the mission of providing safety, inclusion, and development to the LGBTIQA+ community: La Casa de Rubén.
This community center, opened on April 2, 2025, pays tribute to Rubén Salazar Lazareno (1988–2021), a beloved community member who transformed his home into a meeting point full of respect, love, and diversity.
Located at 2A Oriente Morelos Street, La Casa de Rubén has facilities designed for the integral well-being of its visitors:
Four multipurpose rooms for workshops and cultural activities. A library that promotes education and access to knowledge. A psychological support clinic, in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Querétaro, to attend to the mental health of the community.
A cafeteria called "Como la flor" which is operated by members of the LGBT+ community, promoting labor inclusion; in Como la flor they have a wide and rich menu, from chilaquiles, sandwiches, desserts, etc. Although its star dish is undoubtedly the rich "Lavender Coffee". It is a quiet space with an enclosed area and an outdoor area where you can enjoy a pleasant moment, work or read a book.
In addition, yoga, ceramics and flower arrangement workshops are offered, among others, which seek to strengthen ties and promote personal development.
In a region where visibility and support for the LGBTIQA+ community are essential, La Casa de Rubén stands as a model of inclusion and respect.
