In Amealco, Querétaro, a different way of doing tourism is being developed: more conscious, more humane and more sustainable. This is also a way of promoting culture, in this case Otomí, due to the presence of the indigenous population in the municipality.
Creación de Viajes is a local agency that is betting on authentic and well-thought-out experiences, far from traditional tourism. One of its most striking proposals is the "forest bathing" experience that includes meditation and hiking; guided activities, which seek to awaken the senses, reduce stress and generate environmental and social awareness.
What does it consist of?
It all begins with a presentation and an introduction to the environment, with the following statement: the forest not only as a landscape, but as a living space that is entered with respect, under the guidance of Humberto and the company of Erika and Gaby, promoters of the Otomi culture of the place.
Giving rise to a symbolic ritual that includes contact with the bark of the trees, a way to begin to connect with the environment from the physical, is that cultural elements are identified, such as the well-known "eyes of god", woven in the shape of a diamond, a symbol of protection, which are placed on the branch of the trees. The importance of protecting not only the natural environment, but also the cultural environment is emphasized.
Inspired by the "forest bathing" originated in Japan in the 80s, this experience is based on studies that show that conscious immersion in natural environments helps reduce cortisol levels (the stress hormone), strengthens the immune system, improves sleep and stimulates creativity. Here it is not only about walking through the forest, but about being present in it: observing, touching, smelling, listening.
With this, a guided meditation is carried out that includes a dynamic where each participant looks for their own space within the forest: a safe, pleasant or simply inspiring place, you can even find whippers, butterflies, hummingbirds, frogs and other elements of nature.
The workshop closes with a small offering accompanied by pericón tea, a traditional plant with digestive properties. All this happens in an atmosphere of respect, guided by people who not only know the place, but are also committed to its preservation and to sharing its wealth in a sustainable way.
