The municipality of San Joaquín is proud to present the 2022 Huapango National Dance Contest. From April 7 to 9, the municipal seat of this demarcation will dress up to relive one of the most characteristic celebrations of the region.
The 51st edition of this great event returns with the intention of continuing to consolidate itself as the most important in the entire country. The Huapango Contest has been an emblem for the region for decades, so it is part of the traditions of the Magical Town and its surroundings.
It was in 1982 when the National Institute of Fine Arts awarded San Joaquín the title of 'Cathedral of Huapango', and 10 years later the same Institute cataloged it as one of the three most important events of its kind at the national level.
Currently this cultural festival receives more than 700 couples who compete, for this edition there will be five categories: small huapangueros (3 to 7 years old), children (8 to 12 years old), youth (13 to 17 years old), adults (over 18 years old) and great huapangueros (over 50 years old).
As part of the show there will be a Violin Contest, as well as interpretation of huapango huasteco.
