The Historic Downtown of Santiago de Queretaro was named World Heritage for being an exceptional example of a Spanish Viceregal city. Besides its sumptuous architecture of the civil and religious buildings of the XVII and XVIII centuries, the original urban trace stands out. The tracing of its streets shows the mixture of races that operated during 400 years: from Corregidora to La Cruz temple, the urban trace was thought by the natives, it is organic and free, without reticule, from Corregidora to Tecnológico Avenue you can appreciate the European nature, the uniformed design, not a perfect one, but a regular indeed.
Life level in Santiago de Queretaro is very good. For many years the city has been chosen as home for many retired people and elderly. The reasons they have decided to live here are many: the nice weather, the quiet life, the nearness to urban spaces. The Historic Downtown is attractive due to its provincial and small-town atmosphere and it isn´t necessary to have a car to move because all places can be reached by foot. Briefly, it is the good life what makes Queretaro a place to settle down.
Queretaro, maybe because of its location, has been an unquestionable protagonist in the History of Mexico. Queretaro´s valley is the limit between Aridoamerica and Mesoamerica; the way of living between these two zones contrast and they coexist since pre-Hispanic ages. During the Viceregal age, Santiago de Queretaro became the Third City of the Kingdom, confirming its relevance and prominence. During the XIX and XX centuries, the city has been a protagonist for the most decisive events of the modern Mexican conformation: the Independence, the Reform and the Revolution.
Queretaro is also a reference point for young people of all over Mexico and the world. The university offerings of the city are pretty big and they are increasing year after year. Due to its location in the center of the Country and its nearness with the most important cities, the same for combining the attractions and services of a big city with the calm of a province, some of the most important universities of the Country have chosen to settle down in Queretaro. The city is an interesting space for the student community, for as different environments and services have been created because of it.
